Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
It's really important to select the correct vehicle, paying attention to the year of the manufacture

The Bargain price is worked out only in the Shopping basket. Choose what you want from the list below and then "Buy Checked Items". Atera's LINEA carriers are without doubt the highest quality 'clamp on' carriers available, of significantly better quality than the Thule Backpac and the various branded products you'll see in UK car dealer accessory catalogues. (They're sold as 'Original Equipment' by car dealers in Germany, but not in the UK. Shame!) The price reflects this quality, although we'd still argue that they're "good value" in the context of the price of a set of roof bars and aluminium roof mounting carriers. They're supplied fully assembled except for the adapter kit which is also required (available separately). If you need to carry four bikes you should order the 4th bike carrier adapter if this is available for your vehicle. Features: - The 3 bike base unit AR4500 is made of stainless steel and aluminium
- Fitting the adapter kit is quick and easy work
- The adapter is specifically made for your vehicle so it will be a perfect fit
- You tighten the LINEA onto your car tailgate using a special key; the tensioner/lock is recessed for extra security
- The bike platform always stands higher than the lights and number plate board, so no additional electrics are required
The bike frame holders are without a doubt the most sophisticated units available. They fit oval and other outsize frames as well as round ones, wrapping a strap right around the frame for safety and security. (This looks like a simple plastic strap, but it is in fact 'sandwiched' around a spring steel core.) With universal joints at both ends, and a slight curve in the aluminium support rod to increase the opportunities available, we haven't yet come across any combination of bike sizes and styles that can't easily be locked into place. - Each bike platform is 1400mm wide. The wheels are held in place with quick fit polypropylene straps, 2 for the front wheel so that they can be 'triangulated' for better stability. The straps travel in adjustable and lockable holders, i.e. they don't fall to the ground when undone.
- Picture 6 shows the wheel clamps. Your bike comes to rest between these (which you'll already have adjusted for your bike wheel base) and won't keep trying to roll off the carrier, even if the car is parked on a slope. Clever stuff...
- There are rubber feet on the bottom of each LINEA to prevent damage when it's being stood up against a wall when not in use
Please note that you can't use rear fixing carriers on cars with rear spoilers. Find a different solution - either roof mounting and/or tow bar mounting.

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next working day, if the order is placed before the cut-off time (see above). Some will arrive on the second working day if there has been a "split-delivery". So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.
