So what's the big deal about MaxxRaxx carriers? Apart from the clever design features (see below), you can In other words, they offer a degree of flexibility which other 'hang on' carriers can't match. This particular carrier is MaxxRaxx part no. 10MA53, supplied with an AL-KO compatible mounting plate. It’s designed for vehicles with a smaller rear mounted spare wheel, requiring a clearance of up to 15cm. It’s also recommended for some larger vans with a vertical tailgate, to give you more space to load the bikes and ensure the handlebars etc. don’t clash with the back of the vehicle. This carrier holds a maximum 5 bikes, and we assume that you are only buying it because your vehicle has a maximum nose weight of 100kg or more. If there is any doubt, please check with your tow bar fitter to be on the safe side. It's basically a 4 bike "Discovery" carrier (MaxxRaxx part no. 10MA43) with the 4 bike top beam replaced with a 5 bike top beam (with a yellow webbing strap), and an extra Bike Cradle. Note that the pictures show the 4 bike version. This is the version for 'bolt on' tow balls; if you have a 'swan neck' or detachable tow ball you'll need the EasyFixx version, but then of course you can't tow at the same time. The most frequently purchased accessories are shown below, including a Light Board Hanger, lighting board options (7 pin plug; check the accessories page for an adapter if you have a 13 pin socket), a Wall Mount Bracket which provides off the ground secure bike storage as well as a ready made work station, and an Artificial Cross Bar for Y-frame and ladies bikes. For the full accessories selection, including the Towing Height Extension (to clear jockey wheel winders etc.), and ski and snowboard carriers, please click here. We also have a full spares programme, including the parts required to transfer your MaxxRaxx between different types of vehicle and / or different tow bars - click here for details. Towing Warning: We sell MaxxRaxx products on the understanding that it is the User's responsibility to check the permitted nose weight, and to check that there is sufficient space for the bikes, particularly when turning or reversing on full lock. In other words, if you do something stupid, don't winge to us about the bikes, the car, third parties, or the bike carrier...

Can I tow at the same time as using this rack? Yes, because this rack fits to a plate mounted behind a bolt-on tow ball it leaves the actual ball free to tow. The amount of bikes you can carry will depend on the amount of clearance you have between the rack and your trailer or caravan. Click here for more information and a guide to working this out. You may also need the Towing Height Extension Kit to clear the jockey wheel handle on the A-frame of your caravan or trailer.
Will I need a lighting board? If the bikes obscure the lights on the back of this vehicle so you will also need a lighting board (listed below). Will I need a number plate? If your bikes also obscure the number plate you will also need to get a new number plate made up. You will need to get this done locally and take your vehicle documents and proof of address with you. What is the maximum load I can carry? It's important you don't exceed the lower of the maximum load for either the rack (in this case 80kg) or your tow bar noseweight. This is the recommended downward force permissible on the tow ball and you'll find it in your handbook and/or tow bar documents. |
