Why it's important to select the correct vehicle and tyre size
Vehicle
There are a surprising number of vehicles that cannot use traditional snowchains, the types that put chain on the inside of the wheel as well as on the tread. This is usually because there is not enough space between the wheels and the shock absorbers; this can be a problem for ordinary SUVs and 4x4s as well as for high performance cars.
You will find this important information in your car handbook - please check this before using your snowchains! Our database is intended to do the basic work for you but, with so many new vehicles and tyre sizes, it should only ever be treated as a guide.
Tyre size
Please also check your tyre size - if you buy incorrectly-sized chains they will be either too tight or too loose.
Ladder track chains
The good news is that car handbooks usually only refer to "traditional snowchains". Ladder track chains such as the Polaire GRIP and Spikes-Spider range only put chain over the tyre tread, so are not subject to these restrictions. They are also ideal for use on rear wheel drives where there is minimal space between the top of the wheel and the wheel arch.
It's really important to select the correct vehicle, paying attention to the year of the manufacture

This superb box and bars package deal provides everything you need, including locking roof bars. All you need to do is to click on "Add to basket and choose bars" to place your order; we'll then show you which roof bars are available. You'll pay more for aluminium than for steel, and you'll pay more for Atera, Thule, or Yakima than you'll pay for CRUZ. The savings on buying the components individually are huge and, if the bars you choose don't come with locks as standard, we'll include them for free, so often the savings are even bigger than advertised. We're very confident that you won't find such good value anywhere else!
We look around the European market regularly and are confident that this is much the best value box of this shape in this price bracket. It's side-opening (left side, UK pavement side), looks really smart, and even has Hapro's 'Master-Fit' low-profile roof bar fittings. It's 98cm wide so there'll still be space for one roof-mounted bike carrier, if it's fitted to aluminium T-track bars of at least 120cm. This makes it a good all round family box.
Other features:
- It has an anthracite-coloured top on a black base.
- It's made from a very tough UV-protected ABS/ASA recyclable plastic.
- There's a 2-point central locking system, with the locks well towards the front and back of the box - this provides better security.
- For extra safety as well as security, you can't remove the key from the lock unless the box is properly closed.
- Hapro's Master-Fit box to bar fittings are very quick and easy to use. Just turn the adjuster knob until the fitting is tight, then push down on the edge of the red cylinder to prevent the adjuster knob from loosening. These fit bars up to 95mm wide x 38mm deep, which includes all the bars we sell.
- 149 x 98 x 42cm
- Weight 14.5kg empty, maximum load 75kg (up there with the premium boxes!), gross loading limit 89.5kg.
- 3 year guarantee.
- The lid opens wide on spring struts.
Here is the basic geometry of this roof box:
- Maximum distance between roof bar centres, front bar to rear bar: 81cm (we recommend that you check this measurement on your car if your roof bars are in a fixed position).
- Minimum distance between roof bar centres: 64cm
Hapro is the world's second biggest roof box manufacturer, one of the big three (Thule, Hapro, KAMEI). They're based near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and make roof boxes for numerous important worldwide brands as well as selling under their own Hapro brand.

Delivery FAQs
When will my order arrive?
There are no deliveries on Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays, except for postable items where Royal Mail has a Saturday delivery. Express Delivery orders placed on a Friday (before 1pm) should be delivered on the Monday or Tuesday, Express Delivery orders placed on a Saturday or Sunday should be delivered on the Tuesday or Wednesday. The arrangements for Very Heavy Items are different and are shown above.
What about Next Working Day delivery?
Most Express delivery orders will arrive on the next working day, if the order is placed before the cut-off time (see above). Some will arrive on the second working day if there has been a "split-delivery". So-called “split deliveries” happen when the couriers do not have enough trailer space for everything that should be moved around the UK, so they will load what they can and leave the rest for the next trailer.
Is my delivery day guaranteed?
No retailer or courier company can ever "guarantee" a Next Working Day delivery. As well as split deliveries, all courier companies occasionally have the same transport problems as can happen to everyone else, including snow blocked roads, closed roads, traffic jams, mechanical breakdown, an inability to find the delivery address, or to gain access to it if, for example, it's in a block of flats. We work with some of the best couriers in the business, and overall they provide an outstanding service.
Do I need to be at home?
We are very flexible with our deliveries and will aim to deliver to an address which suits you – this does not need to be your home address. Goods can usually be left without signature - we prefer this with roof boxes. There's a "Special Delivery Instructions" box in the checkout area where we'll ask you to choose a typical instruction and then amend it to suit your particular requirements.
